Scope: 1,200 sq. ft. of sleek concrete pool decking with integrated drainage, plus landscaped seating and accent walls
The Story
The Harpers didn’t just want a pool, they craved a backyard oasis where summer days melt into starry nights. They envisioned a poolside retreat that balanced modern elegance with practicality, a place to splash, lounge, and impress.
Our challenge? Craft a concrete deck that’s as stunning as it is slip-proof, framed by landscaping that turns a swim zone into a paradise.
The Procedure
Site Prep & Drainage
(Weeks 1-2)
We stripped the old cracked deck, excavating 4 inches deep, then sloped the subgrade to whisk water away from the pool. Hidden trench drains were plotted to keep the surface dry without breaking the sleek vibe.
Base & Reinforcement
(Weeks 3-4)
A 3-inch gravel bed went down, topped with a rebar grid for strength. This wasn’t just a deck, it was a fortress against sun and splash.
Concrete Pour
(Weeks 5-7)
We poured 40 cubic yards of fiber-reinforced concrete, tinted a soft taupe to complement the pool’s shimmer. A light broom finish added grip; a UV-resistant sealant locked in the glow. Integrated channels funneled water to the drains like a silent butler.
Landscaping Flourish
(Weeks 8-10)
Curved concrete benches, stained a warm sandstone hue, hugged the deck’s edge. We added a low accent wall with a rippling wave pattern—cast in concrete, of course—screening the pool from prying eyes.
Final Polish
(Weeks 11-12)
After curing, we buffed the surface and installed LED strips beneath the benches for a nighttime glow. The Harpers dove in by July 4th—literally.
The Outcome
The Harper’s Modern Poolside Paradise is now the neighborhood’s worst-kept secret. The deck handles cannonballs and cocktails with equal grace, while the landscape touches: benches, walls, lights and elevate it to magazine-worthy status. Twelve weeks turned a bland backyard into a sun-soaked sanctuary.
